Ever since I became an otaku, I stopped listening to much American music (Teen pop is OK.) because why bother when I discovered something SOOO much better - JPOP!!!!!!! MY LOVE!!!! Je'taime!!!!!!!! In alot of American music, the lyrics are sooo depressing I try to concentrate on the MUSIC and not the WORDS. But when I translate japanese music, I've never seen an emo-lyriced song Plus, Jpop just SOUNDS better than American music It's more up-tempo and mood-lifting than American pop.
Japanese Music
American Music

-holds up hand guiltily- Japanese music is nice, But I like being able to understand songs without a translator... And sometimes I need uber-sad, angry music when I'm depressed... Which is often xDD.. Don't kill me o.o....!!! I'm allowed to have an opinion, too...

Same here. English music is just too boring because you can understand all of it when you hear it the first time; no insight required.

Isn't that how music should be? I only like Japanese music cause of the energy and power it has: how it can affect you, even if you don't know what the singer is saying.

Well, there's that, but music should be like writing: you should have to go over it at least once before being able to truly understand it, because there's two meanings to every work of art: a surface meaning and a hidden meaning. Most Japanese songs have hidden meanings that are difficult to see until you translate [or at least transliterate] them, which is why I love them so much~ <3
